Plot

Joseph Crone awakens in his hotel room at 11:11 in the morning on November 7, 2011. His manager Grant shows up and pushes him to start a new novel, mentioning that his last book moved over five million copies. Joseph starts writing about losing his belief in any higher power after the deaths of his wife and son, and he puts down the words, "God is dead, or maybe he was never alive." The next day, November 8, Joseph goes to his support group meeting, where a woman named Sadie shares her story.

Afterward, Sadie tells him outside that he should speak up more, compliments his way with words, and hands him a notebook. As he leaves, Joseph gets into a car crash. At the hospital, an MRI shows he is completely unharmed, though the other driver died. Joseph tells Sadie he feels pointless and prays daily for God to end his life.

He notices his watch has stopped exactly at 11:11. That evening, his estranged brother Samuel calls from Spain, where he lives with their father Richard, and informs Joseph that their father is dying. On November 9, Joseph travels to Barcelona to see his father. He meets Samuel, who uses a wheelchair.

Samuel asks Joseph to set aside his anger toward the church and to stay the night. Later, Samuel mentions his congregation has shrunk and requests that Joseph try to get some of his fans to follow his church. In Samuel’s study, the housekeeper Ana insists that Samuel show Joseph a video called "video de los demonios." She plays a security recording from November 3 that shows a faint shape resembling a demon at 11:11 at night.

Joseph tells Samuel he has been noticing the number 11-11 often over the past few days. He then speaks with Ana and discovers a diary titled "El Libro de Ana." Ana claims it is her own gospel. That night, Joseph reads that people who frequently see 11-11 have been "Activated," and he rescues Samuel from being choked by demon-like creatures.
