Premise

Many generations after the events of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, the New Mane Six—Sunny Starscout, Izzy Moonbow, Hitch Trailblazer, Pipp Petals, Zipp Storm, and later Misty Brightdawn—live in Maretime Bay after restoring magic to the world. Sunny's home, the Crystal Brighthouse, holds the Unity Crystals, magical objects created by Twilight Sparkle to protect Equestria from the fire alicorn Opaline Arcana. The three pony types have reunited but still face challenges living together and managing their magic. The immortal Opaline, weakened and forgotten, seeks to take all magic for herself and rule Equestria. She sends her unicorn assistant Misty to spy on Sunny and her friends, promising Misty a cutie mark in return. Misty rarely succeeds but sometimes enjoys life in Maretime Bay and begins to realize the outside world is larger than Opaline described. Opaline devises plans to strengthen her magic for an assault on Equestria.

Production

After My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic concluded in 2019, Hasbro began work on a fifth incarnation. Entertainment One Vice President Emily Thompson stated the core cast would represent more peer groups to fit Generation Alpha's higher emotional intelligence; main character Sunny Starscout is an activist. The production team aimed to expand the franchise's world rather than create a new one, setting the series in Equestria many years after the fourth incarnation and exploring its lore. In February 2021, a computer-animated series was green-lit for Netflix as a follow-up to My Little Pony: A New Generation. Atomic Cartoons confirmed in May 2021 it would produce the series, and its parent company Thunderbird Entertainment disclosed that 27 episodes were in the pipeline. The title My Little Pony: Make Your Mark and the 2022 content plan were revealed by Entertainment One on February 17, 2022. The new voice actors for the five main ponies were announced on social media the same day. Maitreyi Ramakrishnan stated she was immediately on board upon learning it was My Little Pony, having been a fan of Friendship Is Magic.

Release

A 44-minute special titled Make Your Mark premiered on May 26, 2022. Chapter 2, with eight 22-minute episodes, was released on September 26, 2022. A double-length special, Winter Wishday, served as the first season finale on November 21. The second season (Chapter 4) released on June 6, 2023, with six episodes and a special, Bridlewoodstock. Chapter 5 (third season) of six episodes released on September 18, 2023. The sixth and final chapter, with three episodes and the special Secrets of Starlight, released on November 23, 2023.
