History

Michael Bivins discovered the group Another Bad Creation, whose members included David "Li'l Dave" Shelton (born November 11, 1982 in Boston, Massachusetts), cousins Romell "RoRo" Chapman (born June 15, 1978 in Atlanta, Georgia) and Christopher "Chris" Sellers (born October 19, 1978 in Cleveland, Ohio), brothers Demetrius "Red" (born September 23, 1979) and Marliss "Mark" (born April 15, 1982) Pugh from Atlanta, and Adrian "G.A." (General Austin) Witcher (born September 7, 1978). Their debut album, Coolin' at the Playground Ya Know!, came out on February 11, 1991. Its first two singles, "Iesha" and "Playground," both cracked the top ten on the R&B and pop charts, with "Playground" marking the group's sole entry on the Dance chart. Additional singles included a cover of New Edition's "Jealous Girl," plus "Spydermann" and "My World." The album peaked at number seven on the Billboard 200 and achieved platinum status. During this period, Mark and Dave joined other children, including Macaulay Culkin, in a scene from Michael Jackson's "Black or White" video. All six members made their only film appearance in The Meteor Man, a movie that also featured cameos from several other musicians. For that role, they dyed their hair blonde, a look they repeated in the video for the East Coast Family's sole group song, "1-4-All-4-1." On March 3, 1991, the group performed "Iesha" on the sketch comedy show In Living Color, where Keenen Ivory Wayans introduced them by comparing them to The Jackson 5, New Edition, and The Boys. Their second album, It Ain't What U Wear, It's How U Play It, was released on September 21, 1993, but neither the album nor its singles appeared on any Billboard chart.
