Debut album
Az Yet released their self-titled debut album in 1996 on LaFace Records. The album featured contributions from David Foster, Babyface, Sheila E., and Brian McKnight. The first single, "Last Night," reached No. 9 on the US Hot 100 and No. 1 on the R&B chart, also peaking at No. 2 in Australia and spending two weeks at No. 1 in New Zealand. The second single, "Hard to Say I'm Sorry," a cover of the Chicago hit, was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and reached No. 8 on the Hot 100. Both singles achieved platinum status, and the album earned RIAA platinum certification.
Television
Thanks to a pair of top ten hits, Az Yet found early fame and landed spots on TV shows like The Keenen Ivory Wayans Show, All That, and two separate episodes of Soul Train—first in 1996 with Marc Nelson singing lead, then in 1997 with Tony Grant. They also played "TJ's Band" on the short-lived drama Fame L.A. In 2013, the group toured as part of the Broadway musical My Brother Marvin (The Secret Life of Marvin Gaye), sharing the stage with Keith Washington, Tony Grant, and Lynn Whitfield. That same year, they teamed up with Malaysian Idol winner Jaclyn Victor to record "Magical Moment," the theme for the animated film Ribbit.
