History
The Androids of Mu grew from the Frestonia squat scene in Notting Hill Gate, West London, with ties to Here & Now, Nik Turner, and Gong members Daevid Allen and Gilli Smyth. Vocalist Suze da Blooze was the band’s main creative force, sharing lead vocals with Corrina and writing most of the songs. Their only record, Blood Robots, was cut at Keith Dobson’s Street Level studio. Critics liked it; Robbi Millar of Sounds called it “Android genius,” comparing the band to The Slits. Starting with proto-punk and post-punk sounds, they later moved into anarcho-punk territory. Crass asked them to join their label if they got a “proper” drummer, but they turned it down. The Newcastle anarcho-punk group Blood Robots took their name from the album. Water Wing Records re-issued Blood Robots on vinyl in 2013.
