Career

Angelica released their first single, "Teenage Girl Crush," on Deceptive Records in 1997 and became regulars on the independent music scene, with appearances on BBC Radio 1's Evening Session and John Peel's show. They also supported The Beautiful South at the Galpharm Stadium in Huddersfield. After disagreements with Deceptive Records management, the band moved to Fantastic Plastic. In August 1999, their single "Why Did You Let My Kitten Die?" was voted Alternative Record of the Year by the Evening Session audience. The follow-up "Bring Back Her Head" peaked at No. 8 in the Indie Charts in November 1999. That year they also recorded a Peel Session and performed on Lamacq Live. In January 2000, Angelica played at the NME Premier Awards alongside Ash and Muse. Their mini-album The End of a Beautiful Career, recorded at Matrix Studios London and produced by Paul Tipler, reached No. 4 in the Indie Chart in April 2000. The band played the Reading and Leeds Festivals in August 2000, and their single "Take Me I'm Your Disease" entered the Indie chart at No. 1 after being playlisted by XFM. In 2002, Angelica appeared on the UK Ladyfest Tour. Their only full-length album, The Seven Year Itch, was produced by Kat Bjelland of Babes in Toyland and Katastrophy Wife and Gavin Monaghan. The band headlined the Lancaster Music Co-op benefit weekend and played at The Yorkshire House in Lancaster in September 2002. The band split after that performance. Brigit Colton and Rachel Parsons later played with The Adventures of Loki from 2003 to 2010. Colton (now Brigit McWade) performs with TV FACE, and Holly Ross plays with The Lovely Eggs.
