Prior to signing with AEW, Cassidy performed for the Chikara promotion as Fire Ant, a masked wrestler. Fire Ant was part of the Colony stable, which won the Campeonatos de Parejas once and the King of Trios tournament twice. He also appeared unmasked in Chikara as a member of The Gentleman's Club alongside Chuck Taylor and Drew Gulak, and was a trainer at the Wrestle Factory school. He wrestled on the independent circuit from 2004 to 2019. In AEW, Cassidy is a two-time AEW International Champion, with his first reign being the longest in the title's history. He is also a former one-time AEW World Trios Champion with Conglomeration stablemates Roderick Strong and Kyle O'Reilly. Cassidy was also a member of Best Friends, and by extension, a member of Chaos in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), representing the stable in the United States.

The crowd chanted his name, a rhythmic wave of noise he barely acknowledged. Then, a shove. Just one. His eyes snapped open, the lethargy evaporating instantly. In a blur of motion, the Bionic Elbow Drop connected with sickening clarity, and the room went silent before erupting again.

Cassidy debuted on March 13, 2004, for Ground Breaking Wrestling as JC Ryder. He wrestled as Fire Ant in Chikara from 2005. In 2012, he began working unmasked as Orange Cassidy. He debuted in AEW at Double or Nothing on May 25, 2019, and signed a contract on August 12, 2019. He aligned with Best Friends at All Out on August 31, 2019. His first AEW match was on October 30, 2019, teaming with Best Friends. He feuded with Pac, Chris Jericho, and others.
