Tomorrow Never Dies (soundtrack)
David Arnold's first Bond score, with a replaced title song.
Tomorrow Never Dies: Music from the MGM Motion Picture is the soundtrack for the 18th James Bond film of the same name. It features David Arnold's first full Bond score, which blends John Barry's classical orchestration with modern electronic rhythms. The title song was selected from about twelve submissions, with Sheryl Crow's theme ultimately chosen by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Arnold's own candidate, "Surrender" (written with David McAlmont and Don Black), became the end-credits piece performed by k.d. lang.
Because the title song changed close to the film's release, Crow's melody does not appear in the score; instead, melodic patterns from "Surrender" recur throughout, notably in action cues and the track "All in a Day's Work." The soundtrack was released before scoring finished, prompting a second album from Chapter III Records that removed theme songs and added extra music plus an interview with Arnold. In 2022, La-La Land Records issued a two-disc limited expanded edition of the complete score, including the title song and unreleased material.
