Release

The Collection was initially released in two versions: a cassette edition and an LP edition. The LP version, containing ten tracks, was aimed at newer fans familiar with Grant through her Top 40 pop hit "Find a Way". The cassette version, with fifteen tracks, targeted her older audience who knew her Christian and secular work. In 1990, the album was re-released on CD with the fifteen tracks from the cassette version plus two additional songs, "Too Late" and "I'm Gonna Fly".

Word Canada accidentally issued the ten-track LP version on CD, using the cover and tray art of the seventeen-track version, which led to confusion and recalls; the seventeen-track version was later released as well. According to CCM Magazine, The Collection is the best-selling Christian music compilation ever, with over one million copies sold. An unauthorized reproduction of the album artwork, featuring Grant, was used for issue No. 15 of the Marvel Comics series Dr. Strange (1990), as the artist was a fan. In 2007, the album was reissued and digitally remastered by EMI/Sparrow Records, with a "Digitally Remastered" logo in the gutter on the CD front.
