Best Home Cook

A BBC cooking competition created after Bake Off left the network.

Best Home Cook, first called Britain's Best Home Cook, is a TV cooking competition from KEO Films and Endemol Shine Group. It started on BBC One on 3 May 2018, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, with judges Mary Berry, Chris Bavin, and Dan Doherty. The show was made after Berry's earlier series, The Great British Bake Off, moved to Channel 4. Critics gave it mixed opinions, and it ended in 2022.

Background

The show was created in the wake of Mary Berry's previous show, The Great British Bake Off, departing the BBC for Channel 4. A second series, with "Britain's" dropped from the title and Angela Hartnett replacing Dan Doherty as a judge, returned in January 2020. During Series 2, the judges were unable to decide on the worst dish during the elimination challenge one week, so no one was eliminated; as a result, two cooks were eliminated the following week. Also in Series 2, contestant Oli was not well enough to compete in the Rustle-up challenge and was automatically placed into the elimination challenge. A celebrity series aired in 2021, where again the judges were unable to decide on the worst dish during the elimination challenge one week, leading to no elimination that week. The programme was axed in 2022.
