Format

City Hospital began as a live broadcast from Southampton General Hospital, part of the Southampton University Trust’s teaching hospital, and also included Princess Anne Maternity Hospital. In 2002, the series relocated to London’s flagship NHS Health Trust, Guy’s Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital. The programme documented real patients and staff, airing live footage of actual surgeries as they happened. Its theme music was an instrumental rendition of Bruce Hornsby’s “The Way It Is.” Topical Television produced both City Hospital and The General.
