The Paddlefish: An American Treasure
Narrated by actor Alex Cord, it covers paddlefish spawning, microscopic embryonic development, habitat loss in the Missouri River, and a poaching incident that led to federal charges and a jail sentence. Poaching targets paddlefish eggs as a substitute for beluga caviar, unavailable since the Iranian Revolution. The program also addresses artificial propagation, fish stocking, and aquaculture for the fish's flavorful meat.
