The Golden Guardians finalized their roster for the 2018 NA LCS Spring Split on December 13, 2017. On February 4, 2018, head coach Locodoco was fired after making inappropriate remarks. The team finished the spring split in tenth place with a 4–14 record. For the summer split, they acquired mid laner Mickey and ended in tenth place with a 5–13 record, becoming the first team to finish last two splits in a row.

In 2019, they acquired Hauntzer, Olleh, and Froggen, and hired Inero as head coach. They finished the spring split in fifth place after a tiebreaker loss to FlyQuest, making their first playoffs but losing 2–3 to FlyQuest. In the summer split, they ended tied for sixth and missed playoffs after a tiebreaker loss to OpTic Gaming. In 2020, they expanded into Super Smash Bros. Melee by signing Zain.

On April 2, 2021, they signed Melee players n0ne, PPMD, and commentator Toph. In 2022, Zain was ranked the number one Melee player in the world. On March 29, 2023, Zain departed; the next day, they signed aMSa and HomeMadeWaffles. On July 21, 2023, the Golden Guardians defeated 100 Thieves to end the summer split regular season with 13 wins, the most in organization history.

In November 2023, the Golden Guardians announced their departure from the LCS. That same month, PPMD announced the disbanding of Golden Guardians as an organization, citing the LCS departure as the main factor. The following month, the Golden Guardians X page was deleted.

Reader's Guide

The Golden Guardians were an American esports organization owned by the Golden State Warriors. They joined the LCS in 2018 as a franchise team. They fielded League of Legends and Super Smash Bros. Melee rosters. The organization disbanded in November 2023 after departing the LCS.
