The Barrier

Lore & Background

While the Barrier keeps the worst of the Hollows at bay, it is not impenetrable. Breaches occasionally occur, requiring specialized teams to manage containment or repair the structural integrity. Proxies and Explorers are the only ones authorized to cross this boundary regularly, entering the Hollows through controlled gates to retrieve resources essential for the city's continued operation.

Reader's Guide

Approaching the Barrier from within New Eridu reveals a stark contrast between urban order and dimensional chaos. The city side features high-tech monitoring stations and reinforced concrete walls lined with containment emitters. Crossing the threshold requires authorization via Hollow Zero terminals, which stabilize the local reality for entry. Once inside the Hollow perimeter, Etherium corruption levels spike significantly, distorting light and gravity near the boundary line. Key landmarks include the Perimeter Watchtowers, where security personnel monitor fluctuations in the shield's energy output. Players should note that environmental hazards increase dramatically within fifty meters of the breach points. Exploration here is less about combat and more about navigation through unstable zones. The visual style shifts from clean cyberpunk aesthetics to surreal, fragmented landscapes as one moves deeper away from the safety of the Barrier.

Did You Know?

• The Barrier's energy output fluctuates based on Hollow activity levels in nearby sectors.
• Unauthorized crossing of the Barrier is strictly prohibited due to high Etherium toxicity risks.
• Proxies utilize specialized gear to mitigate radiation exposure when operating near the perimeter.
• Maintenance crews work around the clock to repair micro-fractures caused by dimensional pressure.
