Description

The hotel occupies the listed Palace of the Pachts of Rájov on Anenské náměstí and the New Pacht Palace, also called Jirásek's House. The Baroque palace, in the eastern part of the complex, was built on the site of five medieval houses joined in 1765 to a design by architect Jan Josef Wirch (some older sources mention Josef Jäger). Its facades on Náprstkova and Stříbrná Streets lack ornamental details. The northern part is partially covered by the Theatre on the Balustrade, with the former main entrance from Anenské náměstí still visible, bearing a coat of arms. A small fountain with a lion mascot sits in the western courtyard. The south façade features a columned portico with a balcony and a passage leading to a monumental double staircase. An 1836 classical-style apartment building, designed by Jan Maxmilián Heger, stands on the former palace garden grounds, with a pavilion courtyard facade.

History

Both buildings underwent extensive renovation during 2003 and 2004 by TaK Architects under the supervision of the Národního Památkového Institute, aiming to restore their original residential function. The renovation created 50 apartments with facilities, a reception, restaurant facilities, and two accessible courtyards, and the hotel opened as Mamaison Suite Hotel Pachtův Palác. This renovation was awarded Building of the Year in 2005. The building was later acquired by Jean-François Ott, who restored it to create a 5 star hotel. In early 2015, a dispute with the neighboring Theatre on the Balustrade, which had used space in the northern part of the Baroque palace as a foyer and backstage entrance since the 1960s, ended when the theatre roofed its own inner courtyard, freeing the remaining space back to the hotel. The hotel now operates independently as The Mozart Prague and serves as a cultural and social center.
