Jayanta Talukdar
First Indian archer to win individual gold at Archery World Cup.
Jayanta Talukdar, born on 2 March 1986 in Guwahati, is an archer from Assam who represents India. In 2006, he claimed the individual gold medal at the FITA Meteksan World Cup, making him the first Indian archer to win gold at that event.
He was part of the Indian junior team that earned a silver medal at the 2004 Junior World Championships. Later in 2006, Talukdar added a gold medal from the South Asian Games and a bronze in the team event at the Asian Games. Despite setbacks in 2009, he was seeded first for the World Cup in Copenhagen that year, supported by Tata Steel.
On 21 June 2012, Talukdar secured a spot on the Indian men’s recurve team for the London Olympics, competing in both the individual and team events. He lost to Jacob Wukie in the first round of the individual competition, and the Indian team fell to Japan in the first round of the team event. In November 2015, he won a bronze medal in the recurve mixed team event at the Asian Archery Championships alongside Deepika Kumari.
He was awarded the Arjuna Award for archery in August 2007.
