Plot

Casey Falls works as a runner for ruthless broker Peter Oak, who dismisses her ambition to become a trader. After a spirit named Nike gives her profitable tips, she makes millions for traders Marty Callahan and Chuck Feeney. Marty, in love with Casey, helps her become a licensed trader. Nike then turns devilish, urging Casey to monopolize world markets and wreck the global economy. Casey rebels with help from Marty and a street musician named Julius.

Critical response

Entertainment Weekly gave the film a B+, praising its cast, script, and direction, and calling Nancy Allen particularly delightful. TV Guide noted the film made commodity-market scenes comprehensible for laymen. The St. Paul Pioneer Press welcomed its message of workplace equality. The Chicago Tribune found its spunk grating due to a lack of original ideas. Roger Ebert described it as witless and lame-brained.
