Vancouver Goldeneyes
First PWHL expansion franchise, based in Vancouver.
The Vancouver Goldeneyes are a professional women’s ice hockey team based in Vancouver, British Columbia, and a member of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL). They became the league’s first expansion franchise, entering the PWHL for the 2025–26 season as part of an initial expansion wave that also included the Seattle Torrent. The team plays its home games at the Pacific Coliseum.
The franchise was announced on April 23, 2025, after a PWHL Takeover Tour exhibition game at Rogers Arena drew a record crowd of 19,038 spectators on January 8, 2025. The team’s first general manager, Cara Gardner Morey, was appointed on May 23, 2025, and Brian Idalski was named the first head coach on June 23, 2025. The inaugural leadership group, announced on November 21, 2025, consisted of captain Ashton Bell and alternate captains Sarah Nurse and Sarah Thompson.
In their debut season, the Goldeneyes won their first game 4–3 at home against Seattle, becoming the first PWHL team to win an inaugural game on home ice. Sarah Nurse scored the franchise’s first goal, and Abby Boreen netted the first game-winning goal in overtime. The team led the league in regular-season attendance, averaging over 11,200 fans per game, but finished sixth overall and missed the playoffs. A late-season hot streak earned the Goldeneyes the PWHL’s Gold Plan, giving them the first overall pick in the 2026 Entry Draft, which they used to select Caroline Harvey from the University of Wisconsin.
The team’s colors, Pacific blue and cream, were announced at expansion. Initially operating under the temporary name PWHL Vancouver, the franchise revealed its permanent identity—the Vancouver Goldeneyes—on November 6, 2025, with a logo and name inspired by the common goldeneye, a diving duck native to North America, including British Columbia’s coastal waters and lakes. The new branding was set to be introduced for the 2026–27 season. The inaugural season jerseys, released on October 21, 2025, featured the city name diagonally across the front and were produced by Bauer.
