Minella bianca
Sicilian white grape grown on Mount Etna's slopes.
Minella bianca is a white wine grape from Sicily, native to the island and grown on the lower slopes of Mount Etna. Its name comes from the Sicilian word for “small breast,” a nod to the elongated shape of its berries. This early-ripening variety is usually picked around mid-September. It is rarely bottled on its own and instead appears in field blends with Carricante and Catarratto bianco. The wine it produces is dry and aromatic, often carrying notes of aniseed.
