Wines
Biancame produces delicate white wines with fruity flavors and floral aromas, according to Master of Wine Jancis Robinson. In the Marche DOC Bianchello del Metauro, the grape is the primary component; the wine may be 100% Biancame or include up to 5% Malvasia bianca Lunga (locally Malvasia Toscana). In the Colli di Rimini DOC of Emilia-Romagna, Biancame must constitute at least 85% of the blend, with Pignoletto, Chardonnay, Riesling Italico, Sauvignon blanc, Pinot blanc and Müller-Thurgau permitted for the remaining 15%.
Synonyms and confusion with other grapes
Several varieties have been known under the synonym Biancame, including Malvasia di Sardegna, Trebbiano Toscano and Albana. Confusion has also arisen with the Marche grape Passerina and with Trebbiano due to similarities in vine appearance. Although the Vitis International Variety Catalogue lists no official synonyms for Biancame, wine experts note that Morbidella has possibly been used as a synonym in the past.
