History
Mold Alexandra was formed in 1929, a year after the earlier Mold Town club folded. The team joined the Mold, Deeside and Buckley League for the 1930–31 season, winning its first competitive fixture 5–3 against Oakenholt St David's on 30 August 1930. That season the club also won the North Wales Junior Cup, and the following season it won the Flintshire Amateur League. Alexandra moved to the West Cheshire Association Football League in 1937, then after the Second World War joined the Welsh National League Wrexham Area, where it remained for over 40 years.
The 1980s brought success, with two Welsh National League titles and several regional cup wins. This led to an invitation to join the newly formed Cymru Alliance in 1990, where the club finished outside the top 10 in both seasons. In 1992 Alexandra became one of the 20 founding members of the League of Wales, losing its first match 1–0 to Inter Cardiff. The club was temporarily suspended for ground regulation issues but was reinstated and finished 13th.
Financial difficulties followed, and relegation from the League of Wales came on the final day of the 1994–95 season after a 7–3 loss to Ton Pentre. The club returned to the Cymru Alliance for three seasons before being relegated again in 1998. It then dropped to Division One of the Wrexham Area League, replacing its own reserve side. Alexandra won promotion to the Premier Division in its first season and returned to the Cymru Alliance in 2002.
The club spent the following 15 years moving between the Cymru Alliance and the Premier Division of the Wrexham Area League.
Women and girls section
In 2025, Mold Alexandra FC received sponsorship from Mold-based PR and communications agency Outwrite PR to develop its women and girls' football section. The support funded new training shirts, water bottles, and drawstring bags for the Girls Fun Football team (years one to six), along with equipment. Investments also allowed over-16s to gain practical experience and earn Football Association of Wales qualifications. The club aims to form competitive teams in the North East Wales FA system and create a recreational football group for females aged 16 and above, with funds contributing to 3G astroturf pitch hire.
