Water polo at the 2024 Summer Olympics
Twenty-two teams competed in Paris water polo tournaments.
The water polo events at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris ran from 27 July to 11 August. Early-round games were held at the Paris Aquatic Centre, while the knockout finals moved to the Paris La Défense Arena. A total of twenty-two teams—twelve men’s and ten women’s—took part in the competition.
Qualification pathways were set by the International Olympic Committee and World Aquatics. France, as the host nation, automatically received one men’s and one women’s berth. The remaining slots were filled through a three-stage process. The 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, provided the gold medalist (winner) of each tournament with an Olympic spot. Five additional places per gender went to the highest-ranked eligible National Olympic Committee from each of five continental meets (Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania). If a continental meet was not held during the qualifying period, that spot went to the top eligible NOC from that continent at the next World Championships. The final quota places—four for men and two for women—were awarded to the highest-ranked eligible NOCs at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar.
