Playing career

Andrew Gordon grew up playing hockey in Nova Scotia, where he was part of the Dartmouth Subways Midget AAA team that took home a silver medal at the 2002 Air Canada Cup, the national midget championship. The next season, he moved to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League to play for the Notre Dame Hounds. Although the Washington Capitals picked him in the seventh round of the 2004 draft, he opted to spend three years with the St. Cloud State Huskies in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association instead of turning pro right away.

His first professional season in 2007-08 saw him split time between the Hershey Bears of the AHL and the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays, though he played most of that year in Hershey. The following season, he scored twenty goals for the Bears and helped them capture the Calder Cup, while also making his NHL debut in a single game with the Capitals. In 2009-10, he improved to thirty-seven goals, and the Bears repeated as Calder Cup champions; he appeared in two more games for Washington that year.

Gordon survived final cuts at Capitals training camp in 2010-11 but was sent down to Hershey alongside Jay Beagle and Mathieu Perreault. He stayed with the Bears until mid-December, when he got called up for a game against the New York Rangers. On December 21, 2010, he notched his first NHL goal against Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils, and after scoring, he kissed teammate Marcus Johansson on the cheek while they sat on the bench. He was later reassigned to Hershey and recalled again in January after Capitals winger Eric Fehr was injured.

On July 2, 2011, he signed a two-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks. During the 2011-12 season, the Ducks traded him to the Vancouver Canucks for defenceman Sebastian Erixon, and he made his Canucks debut on March 21, 2013, in a game in Phoenix. After becoming an unrestricted free agent, he signed a one-year deal with the Winnipeg Jets on July 6, 2013, and spent the entire 2013-14 season with their AHL affiliate, the St. John's IceCaps, helping the team reach the Calder Cup finals for the first time. On July 2, 2014, he signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Philadelphia Flyers. On June 3, 2015, he signed with Linköpings HC of the Swedish Hockey League.
