The Belgian Sport Horse, known as the Belgisch Sportpaard or Cheval de Sport Belge, is a Belgian warmblood breed bred for dressage, show-jumping, and three-day eventing. It is one of three Belgian warmblood stud-books, alongside the Belgian Warmblood and the Zangersheide. Its origins trace to the early twentieth century, when imported Selle Français and Thoroughbred stallions were cross-bred with local Belgian Draught horses to produce cavalry mounts. Later influences came from Selle Français, Dutch Warmblood, and Hanoverian bloodlines.

Background
The breed's formal history began in 1920 with the establishment of La Société d'Encouragement pour l'Elevage du Cheval d'Armes. Around 1930, the focus shifted from cavalry to leisure horses, and the society renamed itself the Société du Cheval de Demi-sang Belge. In 1967, it gained royal status as the Société Royale du Cheval de Demi-sang Belge. Finally, in 1991, the society adopted the name Studbook SBS, or SBS Studbook. The breed's conservation status was listed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 2007 as 'not at risk.' No population data has been reported to DAD-IS since 2013, and its conservation status in 2025 was listed as 'unknown.'
