Gameplay

Moekan is an erotic romance visual novel where the player takes the role of Takahiro Kanzaki. Most gameplay involves reading narrative and dialogue text displayed on screen, accompanied by character sprites over background art. At certain points, CG artwork replaces the sprites and backgrounds. The game follows a branching plot with multiple endings; player choices determine the direction of the story. Some decisions can lead to premature endings. To see all plot lines, the player must replay the game and make different choices. The game includes scenes depicting sex between Moekan and a heroine.

Plot

Moekan is set on Moekko Island, a secluded location where android combat maids manufactured by AC Company are trained. The protagonist Takahiro Kanzaki owns the island and lives in a mansion estate, tasked with training these maids. One day, an early prototype robot named Rinia, who has the appearance of a young girl, arrives for training. She tries hard to impress Takahiro, who believes she will only cause trouble, but her efforts and attitude affect those around her. Other maids include Fuyuha Jissōji, a laid-back library worker who likes to nap; Kazusa Asagiri, a skilled cook from the Audit Office sent to monitor Takahiro; Kaori Kirishima, who manages the island and ends sentences with "dechu"; and Suzuki, a mysterious girl who wanders the island at night, enjoys grilled octopus, and is the daughter of an executive of Moe. Suzuki was added as a heroine in the Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 versions.

Development and release

Moekan is KeroQ's third visual novel. The scenario was written by Nekokichi, SCA-Ji, Shion, and Majika. Character designs were by Motoyon, SCA-Ji, and Suzuri, who also served as main artists. An all-ages Dreamcast port followed on December 25, 2003, and a PlayStation 2 version titled Moekan: Moekkojima e Youkoso was released in limited and regular editions on February 5, 2004. Two spin-off games, Moeten and Moekasu, were sold at Comic Market.
