Internalin
Surface proteins enabling Listeria invasion and placental barrier crossing.
Last updated
Internalins are surface proteins on Listeria monocytogenes that facilitate invasion of mammalian cells. They exist as InlA and InlB, which bind cadherins and Met receptors respectively. Their precise in vivo role is not fully understood, but they are key virulence factors in Gram-positive bacteria, aiding host entry and autophagy escape.
