Vikings season 5

The fifth season of *Vikings* first aired on November 29, 2017, on History in Canada. It follows the legendary Viking chieftain Ragnar Lothbrok and his crew, and later his sons, but its premise shifts from the first four seasons after Travis Fimmel left the role of Ragnar. The season is a double-order of twenty episodes, split into two ten-episode parts. The first part ended on January 24, 2018, and the second half began on November 28, 2018. The entire season concluded on January 30, 2019. It focuses on the adventures of Ragnar’s surviving sons. Jonathan Rhys Meyers joins the main cast as Bishop Heahmund, having first appeared in the fourth season finale.

The main cast includes Katheryn Winnick as Queen Lagertha, Gustaf Skarsgård as Floki, Alexander Ludwig as Bjorn Ironside, Peter Franzén as King Harald Finehair, Jasper Pääkkönen as Halfdan the Black (part 1), Moe Dunford as King Aethelwulf (part 1), Alex Høgh as King Ivar the Boneless, Marco Ilsø as Hvitserk, Jordan Patrick Smith as Ubbe, Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Bishop Heahmund, and John Kavanagh as The Seer. Clive Standen makes special appearances as Duke Rollo. Three characters who died in earlier seasons appear briefly via body doubles: Sigurd’s corpse in “The Fisher King,” King Ecbert’s corpse in the same episode and as a cloaked figure in “Baldur,” and Athelstan as a cloaked figure in “The Departed.”

Recurring and guest actors include India Mullen as Aethegyth, Frank Prendergast as Bishop Cynebert, Laurence O’Fuarain as Hakon, Bosco Hogan as the Lord Abbot of Lindisfarne, Mabel Hurley as young Lagertha, Ross Matthew Anderson as Lagertha’s father, Ben McKeown as Crowbone, Conn Rogers as Canute, Jamie Maclachlan as Aldwin, and Martin Maloney as Vigrid.

The season is an Irish-Canadian co-production presented by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, developed by TM Productions and Take 5 Productions. Executive producers are Morgan O’Sullivan, Sheila Hockin, Sherry Marsh, Alan Gasmer, James Flynn, John Weber, and Michael Hirst. Keith Thompson produced the first four and last four episodes, and Liz Gill produced episodes five through sixteen. Bill Goddard and Séamus McInerney are co-producers.
