Lore & Background

The team, which had previously worked on titles like Devil May Cry and Resident Evil at Capcom, brought a distinct flair for over-the-top combat and vibrant art direction. Their first major project, Viewtiful Joe, debuted on the Nintendo GameCube and later on PlayStation 2, introducing a unique film-themed visual style where players could manipulate time and perspective to fight enemies. The game's success led to a sequel and a spin-off, solidifying Clover's reputation for high-energy, character-driven gameplay.

Clover Studio was a subsidiary of Capcom, operating from 2004 to 2007. The studio developed games primarily for the Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 2, and later the Wii. Viewtiful Joe was released to strong critical acclaim for its inventive combat and visual style, though commercial sales were modest. Ōkami, their swan song, was praised for its watercolor-inspired graphics and epic scope but struggled to find a large audience. God Hand, a more niche beat-em-up, received mixed reviews but has since gained a cult following.
