Alone in the Dark 3 is a 1995 survival horror video game developed and published by Infogrames Multimedia. It is the third installment of the Alone in the Dark series, initially released for MS-DOS in 1995 and later ported to PC-98, Windows, and Mac OS. The game was notable for being the first in the series to be released exclusively on CD-ROM rather than floppy disks.

Plot
In July 1925, Edward Carnby, now nicknamed the 'Supernatural Private Eye', investigates the disappearance of a film crew in Slaughter Gulch, a ghost town in the Mojave Desert. Among the missing is Emily Hartwood, niece of Jeremy Hartwood from the original game. Carnby discovers a curse on the town, with the villain Jed Stone responsible for the crew's disappearance. He must fend off sharpshooters, deranged prospectors, and bloodthirsty lost souls.
Release
This was the first game in the series not released on floppy disks, instead launching as a CD-ROM game with full Red Book audio and dialogue speech in multiple languages. It was the first in the series to be exclusively released for computer formats, receiving no official console release. In Japan, AMT Savan Corps developed and released a PC-98 version in 1995. Electronic Arts Victor released Windows and Mac OS versions in Japan in 1996 as Alone in the Dark 3: Ghosts in Town. A 3DO Interactive Multiplayer version was announced but never released. The official strategy guide was written by Steve Schwartz.
