FBC: Firebreak

A cooperative shooter set in the Oldest House.

Remedy Entertainment released FBC: Firebreak, a first-person shooter, in 2025. Taking place half a dozen years after Control, the game centers on a soldier squad called Firebreak. Critical reception was mixed, and sales disappointed the studio. Remedy stopped making new content for it in March 2026, but will keep its online servers running.

Gameplay

FBC: Firebreak is a team-based player versus environment first-person shooter for three players. They take on the role of Firebreak containment teams, venturing into the Oldest House to eliminate Hiss-controlled human enemies. Players use Crisis Kits with customizable loadouts of firearms, grenades, and Paranatural Augments granting unique abilities. The wave-based Endless Shift mode features shifting arenas from Control.

Development and release

Announced in June 2021 under the codename Condor, the game was initially co-published with 505 Games. In February 2024, Remedy bought the Control franchise rights, including publishing rights, from 505 Games for €17 million. The budget was confirmed as €25 million in April 2024, and the game was pay-to-play. Two major patches followed: Rogue Protocol in January 2026 and Open House in March 2026, which coincided with a permanent price cut to $19.99. Jean-Charles Gaudechon became CEO in March 2026.

Reception

FBC: Firebreak received mixed or average reviews on Metacritic, with 24% of critics recommending it on OpenCritic. It attracted over 1 million players by 26 June 2025, but suffered rapid player attrition despite high Xbox Game Pass engagement. In February 2026, Remedy reported a €14.9 million write-down for fiscal year 2025 due to poor commercial performance, noting that consumer sales were significantly lower than anticipated, particularly on Steam.
