Background

Zero Hour includes three new campaigns of five missions each, one for each side, with the chronological order being America first, Global Liberation Army (GLA) second, and PLA last. Unlike the previous campaigns, which lacked full motion video cinematic sequences during mission briefing, the Zero Hour campaigns return to that tradition, each showing a live-action video of a news reporter of the respective side. The plot picks up where the previous campaigns ended.

Plot

The US campaign kicks off with the Global Liberation Army using the Baikonur Cosmodrome to launch a toxin warhead against a US naval base in Northern Europe. Since China had already failed in its own attack on the facility, the US takes advantage of Chinese weaponry to obliterate the missile silo with a B-2 Bomber. Next, the US oversees a United Nations humanitarian mission in Mogadishu, but GLA interference makes the operation tough. A US carrier group supplies air support while American troops raid a hidden GLA base, where they stumble upon files about Dr. Thrax, a GLA general and scientist working on Anthrax Gamma Toxins. The documents reveal a secret lab at Mount Elbrus, so Colonel Burton leads a strike to destroy it and free prisoners of war, while Chinese agent Black Lotus gathers intel from across the nearby river. The US then successfully invades Iranian oil fields that bankroll the toxin program, but learns Dr. Thrax has already finished the agent and intends to fire toxin-loaded missiles at major US cities. A US assault on Dr. Thrax’s compound, aided by disillusioned GLA defectors, captures the missile sites before they can be launched, and Dr. Thrax is presumably killed in the attack.
