Theodore began his minor hockey career with the Aldergrove Minor Hockey Association, where he became the most outstanding player in the team's franchise history. He was drafted by the Seattle Thunderbirds in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft and later served as captain of the team. He won gold medals at the 2013 World U18 Championships and 2015 World Junior Championships, and a silver medal at the 2019 World Championship. Theodore was traded from the Ducks to the Golden Knights on June 21, 2017, during the NHL Expansion Draft. He signed a seven-year contract extension with Vegas on September 24, 2018, after a contract dispute that caused him to miss nearly two weeks of training camp.
