History
Travis Scott first announced Cactus Jack Records as his own imprint in March 2017. He explained that his motivation wasn't about taking financial control of his own music, but rather about lifting up other artists and creating chances for them, hoping to improve on the support he had received. Later that year, in December, the hip-hop duo Huncho Jack—made up of Scott and Migos member Quavo—put out their debut album, Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho, through the label. It landed at number three on the Billboard 200. In February 2018, Sheck Wes became the label's first signing, in a joint deal with Interscope Records and Kanye West's GOOD Music. Wes announced his debut album Mudboy on March 10, and it dropped on October 5. Scott's own third album, Astroworld, came out on August 3 and included Wes on the track "No Bystanders" as well as a guest spot from Don Toliver on "Can't Say." Toliver signed with Cactus Jack that same month. Astroworld hit number one on the Billboard 200, while Mudboy peaked at number 17. On November 29, 2019, Scott revealed the label's first compilation, JackBoys, which arrived on December 27 and also debuted at number one. On March 13, 2020, Toliver released his debut studio album Heaven or Hell under the label, backed by the singles "No Idea," "Can't Feel My Legs," and "Had Enough." It reached number seven on the Billboard 200. On April 24, Scott and Kid Cudi, performing as the Scotts, dropped their single of the same name. On July 21, Canadian producer and frequent collaborator WondaGurl signed a worldwide publishing deal with Cactus Jack Publishing and Sony/ATV Music Publishing, alongside her own imprint Wonderchild Music. In February 2021, SoFaygo joined the label around the time his track "Knock Knock" started picking up steam. That July, Scott launched a cannabis operation called Cactus Farm. On June 24, 2021, he announced a partnership between Cactus Jack and fashion house Dior; the menswear line was unveiled the next day during a live stream that also teased snippets from his upcoming fourth album, Utopia. In late September 2021, Toliver and Chase B said they would each release solo projects—Life of a Don and Escapism, respectively—in October. Toliver's Life of a Don came out on October 8 and charted at number two on the Billboard 200.
