Playing career

Josh Teves started his hockey journey with the Calgary Royals in minor hockey from 2011 to 2013. After finishing high school at West Island College, he played a season with the Fernie Ghostriders of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League in 2013–14, during which he committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Princeton University. The following year, he moved to the Merritt Centennials of the British Columbia Hockey League, where he earned the Coach’s Choice award and the Most Improved award, and became the first player in Centennials history to receive the RBC National Junior A Scholarship.

Teves joined the Princeton Tigers for the 2015–16 season. As a freshman, he appeared in 31 games and notched 7 points. His offensive game picked up in his sophomore year, when he led all Tiger defensemen in scoring with 25 points. Princeton reached the 2017 ECAC Hockey Tournament quarterfinals but fell to Union College. After that season, Teves was named to the first-team All-Ivy League and attended the Calgary Flames’ 2017 Development Camp.

In his junior year, Teves again led Princeton defensemen in scoring, this time with 33 points. The Tigers made the ECAC Tournament and beat Clarkson University in a 2–1 overtime victory to secure an NCAA Tournament berth for the first time since 2009. Teves earned a spot on the All-ECAC Hockey third-team, the first Princeton defenseman to do so since 2012, and was again named first-team All-Ivy League. Princeton lost 4–2 to Ohio State in the NCAA first round.

As a senior, Teves was named to the ECAC Hockey Pre-Season All-League Team and served as team captain. He once more led Princeton defensemen in scoring as the team qualified for the 2019 ECAC Tournament. Off the ice, he was nominated for the Hockey Humanitarian Award for his community service and was a finalist for the 2018–19 Senior CLASS Award. Princeton was swept by Brown University in the first round, ending his collegiate career. On March 18, 2019, Teves was again selected for the All-ECAC Hockey third-team.

Teves went undrafted and signed a one-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent on March 12, 2019. He made his NHL debut on March 26 in a 5–4 loss to the Anaheim Ducks.
