Raúl Tamudo
Espanyol's all-time top scorer and captain who defined an era.
Raúl Tamudo Montero (born 19 October 1977) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a striker. An icon at Espanyol, he captained the club for almost a decade, playing 389 official games, winning two Copa del Rey trophies and being their all-time top scorer with 140 goals. He amassed La Liga totals of 407 matches and 146 goals over 17 seasons, also representing Real Sociedad and Rayo Vallecano in the competition. Tamudo was an international for Spain in the 2000s.

Born in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Barcelona, Catalonia, Tamudo was a product of Espanyol's youth ranks who bought him from local Gramenet for six footballs. He served two Segunda División six-month loans before finally settling in 1999–2000. He helped Espanyol to two Copa del Rey trophies: in the 2000 final against Atlético Madrid, he netted by stealing the ball from goalkeeper Toni Jiménez with his head; in the 2006 edition, he scored in the second minute and provided an assist for Luis García. On the last matchday of 2006–07, his brace in a 2–2 draw at Barcelona made him Espanyol's all-time top scorer. He also played in the 2007 UEFA Cup final, contributing two goals in seven games. After injury and form issues, he lost his starting spot in 2008–09 but scored a hat-trick against Málaga on the final day. The 2009–10 season was disastrous: he struggled with injuries, was ostracized by manager Mauricio Pochettino, lost the captaincy to Daniel Jarque, and finished with no goals in six league games. He then had spells at Real Sociedad, Rayo Vallecano, Pachuca (Mexico), and Sabadell, retiring in September 2015. In December 2022, he joined the Kings League, debuting for Porcinos in January 2023.
