Playing career
Peter Ölvecký entered the NHL after the Minnesota Wild picked him 78th overall in the 2004 draft. He got his first call-up from the Houston Aeros, the Wild’s AHL farm team, on January 28, 2009, and made his NHL debut two days later against the Edmonton Oilers, wearing jersey number 28. That July, he inked a one-year, two-way deal with the Nashville Predators. On March 10, 2010, the Predators’ AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals, loaned him to the Manitoba Moose, the Vancouver Canucks’ top AHL club, in exchange for veteran Marty Murray on loan. The fall of 2010 saw him suit up for HC Dukla Trenčín in Slovakia’s Extraliga, where he put up 26 points (9 goals, 17 assists). He spent the early part of the 2010-11 season with KalPa in Finland’s SM-liiga, then signed with KHL side Lev Poprad for 2011-12 but left after just six games. In January 2012, he joined the Växjö Lakers of Sweden’s Elitserien on a try-out contract that ran until January 29.
