Playing career

Högberg began his professional career in the 2015–16 season, debuting for the Växjö Lakers in the SHL. His play led to selection by the Philadelphia Flyers in the fifth round, 139th overall, of the 2016 NHL entry draft. On May 31, 2020, he signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Flyers. During the 2022–23 season, he remained with the Phantoms in the AHL and played 19 games before the Flyers placed him on unconditional waivers on February 9, 2023; his contract was terminated by mutual agreement. He then returned to Sweden and signed with Skellefteå AIK on February 11, 2023, for the remainder of the season, recording 4 points in 11 regular season games and 4 points in 17 playoff games as Skellefteå reached the SHL finals. After the season, Högberg entered free agency and signed a two-year contract with Frölunda HC on May 10, 2023.
