Joshua Hennessy is an American former professional ice hockey player who appeared in the National Hockey League for the Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins. He most recently played for the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.

Early career

Hennessy played in the 1999 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Boston Junior Eagles. He was drafted 17th overall in 2001 by the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL. In his first QMJHL season he recorded 40 points. He later became fluent in French and served as team captain. Quebec was eliminated in the round-robin of the 2003 Memorial Cup. The San Jose Sharks selected him 43rd overall in the 2003 NHL entry draft. He received the Karcher Plaque as QMJHL Humanitarian of the Year in 2004 and led the Remparts in scoring during the 2004–05 season.

Professional career

Hennessy began his professional career with the Cleveland Barons, the AHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, in 2005–06. He led the Barons with 24 goals and 39 assists for 63 points in 80 games, playing every regular-season game. He set franchise rookie records for goals and points and was named Barons Rookie of the Year. On July 9, 2006, he was traded with Tom Preissing to the Ottawa Senators via a three-way deal involving the Chicago Blackhawks. He spent most of 2006–07 with the Binghamton Senators and scored his first NHL goal on January 7, 2007, against the Philadelphia Flyers. On May 6, 2010, he left the Senators organization, signing a one-year contract with HC Lugano of Switzerland. On July 5, 2011, he signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Boston Bruins and was assigned to the Providence Bruins, recording 41 points in 67 games before three scoreless NHL appearances. During 2014–15 he played 27 games with Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk before transferring to Växjö Lakers on December 30, 2014. He added 13 points in 20 games, helped the Lakers win the Swedish championship, and signed a two-year contract extension on June 4, 2015.
