Playing career
Joachim Blichfeld spent two years with the Malmö Redhawks system before the San Jose Sharks picked him in the seventh round of the 2016 NHL draft. He then moved to the WHL's Portland Winterhawks for the 2016-17 season, putting up 28 goals and 30 assists over 58 games. The Sharks signed him to a three-year entry-level deal on December 28, 2017. During the 2018-19 WHL season, Blichfeld topped the league with 114 points in 68 games, earning the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy as the league's top player.
Blichfeld started the 2019-20 campaign with the Sharks' AHL farm team, the San Jose Barracuda. He got called up on December 12, 2019, and made his NHL debut that evening in a 6-3 defeat to the New York Rangers. He ended the season with no points in three NHL games, but he notched 32 points in 44 AHL contests and earned a spot in the AHL All-Star Classic. Because the 2020-21 season was pushed back by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sharks loaned him to his hometown Frederikshavn White Hawks in the Metal Ligaen on October 27, 2020. There, he recorded 12 points in 12 games before heading back to San Jose's training camp. On March 3, 2021, he hit Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon with an illegal check to the head, was ejected from the game, and got a two-game suspension the next day. He scored his first NHL goal on April 24, 2021, in a 6-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild. Following that season, he inked a one-year contract with the Sharks.
As a restricted free agent, Blichfeld chose to head back to Europe, signing a two-year deal with the SHL's Växjö Lakers on June 8, 2022. In the 2024-25 season, his third with the Lakers, he left the club after 37 games and joined fellow SHL side Rögle BK for the rest of the year on January 29, 2025. On May 8, 2025, he was moved to the Finnish Liiga club Tappara.
