One of its earliest notable players was Adérito Carvalho da Sena, who played in the 1930s and later had the stadium named after him. Mindelense celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1969 and became the first Cape Verdean club to achieve professional status in July 1984. The centenary of the club's foundation was marked in 2019. In the national championships, Kadú scored the most goals in 2009 with seven, Fufura in 2011 with five, and Dukinha in 2013 with six. Mindelense made its 45th or more appearance at the highest level in the 2017 season, winning its first match on May 14 against Paulense. The club first participated in the playoffs in 1954 before independence and in 1976 after independence, winning its first eight titles. Its first colonial championship title came against Praia's Travadores, shared with Académica do Mindelo until Mindelense won again in 1956. Further provincial titles followed in 1960, 1962, 1966, 1968, and the final provincial title before independence in 1970.
