History
Alianza F.C. came into being when Carlos Orlando Ferreira, who owned and chaired Alianza Petrolera, moved the team from Barrancabermeja in Santander to Valledupar. This relocation happened after newly elected officials and private businesses in Valledupar and the Cesar Department promised financial backing. By early January 2024, Alianza Petrolera faced two problems: a lack of local financial support and the fact that Barrancabermeja’s Estadio Daniel Villa Zapata could not host international matches. Meanwhile, Valledupar expressed interest in having the club play there. On 16 January 2024, the club confirmed it was leaving Barrancabermeja because local authorities had not provided enough money. It also dropped “Petrolera” from its name and abandoned its yellow and black colors. That same day, a press conference in Valledupar unveiled the new club, Alianza F.C., with a fresh crest and colors representing the city. The team played its first match on 21 January 2024, falling 3–1 to Atlético Nacional in the opening round of the 2024 Apertura tournament. On 6 March, Alianza played its first international game, beating América de Cali 2–1 in the Copa Sudamericana’s first stage to reach the group stage. Although the club managed a 3–3 draw against Cruzeiro at Mineirão in its second group match, it did not advance further in the competition.
