The drone serves in both surveillance and one-way attack roles, with payloads including TM-62 anti-tank mines, RPG-7 warheads, modified 82mm mortar rounds, hand grenades, and improvised munitions such as bundles of explosives packed with steel ball bearings, nails, or cut rebar.

Two main variants exist: the Molniya-1, which has a fixed-wing layout with a single electric motor, and the Molniya-2/Molniya-2R, which features twin motors and advanced capabilities including AI-powered machine vision for attacks in radio silence, as well as compatibility with integrated satellite communication terminals like GLONASS and Starlink to resist electronic interference.
