The Aisheng ASN-205 is a Chinese fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle developed by Xi'an Aisheng Technology Group Co., Ltd (also known as the Northwestern Polytechnical University UAV Research Institute or 365th Institute). It first appeared on September 6, 2009, during a practice parade for the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China. The ASN-205 was designed as the successor to the earlier ASN-104/105 series and is intended primarily for drone missions, while the related ASN-206 is used for reconnaissance.
Background
The ASN-205 was developed by Xi'an Aisheng Technology Group Co., Ltd, an entity established in 1984 that also operates as the Northwestern Polytechnical University UAV Research Institute (365th Institute). The UAV made its first public appearance on September 6, 2009, during a rehearsal for the military parade marking the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, which took place on October 1, 2009. It was conceived as a replacement for the earlier ASN-104 and ASN-105 drones, focusing on missions typically assigned to drones rather than reconnaissance, a role filled by the ASN-206.
