Format

A Millón was a game show on Univision that ran for about a year starting in 2000. The network created it as its own version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. It used a similar pyramid structure and multiple-choice questions, but added some different features. The host was Daniela Romo, a Mexican singer and actress. At the start, Romo would come on stage and show a short video about the contestant, who was trying to win one million dollars. The contestant then entered the studio, and the two talked in a separate area about why the person was playing. After that, they moved to the main set, where family members could help. The game had four levels of questions. A scoreboard showed the current level’s value with rotating numbers; each correct answer locked a number into place. When a level’s value was complete, the contestant won that amount. A wrong answer gave a strike, and three strikes ended the game, leaving the player with nothing. After two strikes, the player could choose to quit and keep the money earned so far. Each contestant also had three passes. While a pass was available, the answer choices appeared without the question, giving the player a chance to use a pass before seeing the question. The top prize was never won.
