Ultraman Zero Side Story: Killer the Beatstar is a Japanese direct-to-video two-part series that serves as a sequel to the 2010 film Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial and as a prologue to Ultraman Saga. The series was released separately as The Metallic Space on November 25, 2011, and Oath in the Meteor on December 22, 2011, and was used to promote the upcoming film Ultraman Saga.

Lore & Background
The series follows the kidnapping of Jean-Bot and Princess Emerana by a mysterious celestial sphere. A week later, ZAP Spacy members Rei and Hyuga discover the sphere on a collision course with Planet Buram and enter it, where Rei rescues Emerana. The sphere's controller sends Jean-Killer and a brainwashed Jean-Bot against the heroes, but Ultraman, Zoffy, and Ultraseven arrive to assist. In the second part, Emerana's voice command temporarily halts Jean-Killer, and the team discovers Beatstar, a program that controls the sphere to destroy planets rich in organic life. Beatstar reveals his creators escaped a destroyed universe but warred among themselves, leading him to eradicate all life for peace. Zero defeats Beatstar with Jean-Killer's help, and the sphere self-destructs. Emerana renames Jean-Killer as Jean-Nine and assigns Jean-Bot as his tutor.

Originally planned to feature Musashi Haruno from Ultraman Cosmos for the series' 10th anniversary, director Yuichi Abe scrapped that idea to save Musashi for Ultraman Saga, replacing him with the Ultimate Force Zero. The return of Princess Emerana and Jean-Nine's debut were tributes to the 2011 earthquake that affected East Japan. Jean-Nine was meant to transform into a combat tank, hence the visible threads on its back. Deathfacer from Ultraman Tiga & Ultraman Dyna: Warriors of the Star of Light was planned to appear as one of Beatstar's army but was modified into the main villain himself. The series serves as a bridge between the Zero film and Ultraman Saga, introducing Jean-Nine and expanding the Ultimate Force Zero's story.
