Gameplay

Players mimic the routine of an on-screen dancer to a chosen song, scoring points based on accuracy. On PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, a smartphone can be used as a controller via a companion app, detecting motion through the phone's internal sensors. The Chinese version replaces traditional karaoke-styled lyrics with a glowing circle pulsing to the beat next to highlighted lyrics, and removes online features except for the Challengers feature, which only allows competing against high scores and AI players. A new challenge feature lets players send and receive challenges as ghost data, viewable on the Just Dance Wall. The World Dance Floor mode returns with 8-player parties on Wii (the Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4 versions of Just Dance 2014 only have 8-player parties), VIPs, and the AutoDance video creator (effects option unavailable on Wii U). Just Sweat is replaced by an optional kilocalorie tracker, and Non-Stop Shuffle returns in the playlists menu. Difficulty ratings are removed. Players can submit clips (excluding Wii players) for inclusion in Community Remix routines. Party Master mode becomes a Wii U exclusive. Coaches from the first three main games are remade using their original designs. All online services were discontinued on 19 November 2018.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack includes 45 songs across various genres. Ubisoft EMEA's senior vice president of marketing Geoffroy Sardin stated the soundtrack aimed to contain more top Billboard artists than ever before, driven by player demand. Dancing Queen by ABBA was planned but scrapped for unknown reasons, later appearing in Just Dance 2018 as a Just Dance Unlimited exclusive. You Never Can Tell by Chuck Berry was also removed for an unknown reason, eventually featured in Just Dance 2016 as a cover by A. Caveman & The Backseats. Additional songs were released as downloadable content, some re-issues from previous editions; one DLC song is free. DLC songs are no longer available for Wii due to the Wii Shop Channel closure, for Wii U following the eShop closure, and for Xbox 360 after the Xbox Live Marketplace closure.

Reception

Just Dance 2015 received mixed-to-positive reviews. Metacritic reports aggregate scores of 70 out of 100 for Xbox One (17 reviews), 72 out of 100 for PlayStation 4 (8 reviews), and 75 out of 100 for Wii U (6 reviews). Zack Stein of IGN rated the Xbox One version 8.0 out of 10, praising the casual audience focus, jump-in multiplayer, improved Kinect motion tracking, and higher-quality background videos, but criticizing the user interface as confusing and frustrating due to irregular design choices. Stein concluded the game's special-effects-laden dance numbers and social integration hold the worldwide Just Dance community together. GameRevolution gave a 3 out of 5, noting the high-energy soundtrack catered to a casual audience with pop hits like Pharrell's Happy and oddball tracks such as a Tetris piece and a song about a fox. The game was praised for forgiving motion detection and multiplayer experience, with the reviewer stating it meets all requirements for a dance game without a floor pad.
