Gameplay

Wild Arms 3 is the first game in the series where all party members can use ARMs, magical firearms. Equippable armor and weapons are replaced with Personal Skills via Guardian invocation. Battle graphics retain background effects from prior games, but the camera can rotate 360 degrees and characters can run during combat. The turn-based combat system can be modified on a battle-by-battle basis. Locations on the world map are not immediately visible; players must learn of them through plot or inquiry and then search manually using a GPS-like system and a purchasable world map.

Plot

The game takes place on Filgaia, a desolate planet whose seas consist of sand, supposedly the result of an ancient war. Four Drifters are chosen to wield the power of the planet's spiritual protectors, the Guardians, to stop a prophesied menace. They are opposed by other Drifter teams, a trio of fanatical scientists called the Prophets, and the Demons of Filgaian legend. The adventurers eventually discover startling truths about their world's history and their personal connections to it. Virginia Maxwell is an 18-year-old Drifter searching for her long-lost father; her ARMs are two revolvers he gave her. Jet Enduro is a cold-blooded amnesiac boy whose original name was Adam Kadmon, as stated by Werner Maxwell; his ARM is a machine gun designed to be usable only by him. Clive Winslett is a 30-year-old bounty hunter with a wife, Katherine, and daughter, Kaitlyn; he is haunted by the death of his mentor, Professor Berlitz, who sacrificed himself to save Clive. Gallows Carradine is a 24-year-old Baskar tribesman working as a low-rent Drifter bandit; his grandmother Halle gives the party hints, and his younger brother Shane is a dream-seer whose vision of a Blue Menace is revealed to be Siegfried. Gallows' ARM is a sawed-off shotgun, the only weapon among the four that is never discussed in the plot.
