Gameplay
Minigames in Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 are accessed through a mode called Trips, which is divided into five regions: USA, Europe, Asia, South America, and Tropics. The game contains 51 minigames, with nine assigned to each region; five are randomly selected each time a trip begins. Completing a trip unlocks those minigames for individual play in Free Play mode, and a Trip Customization mode lets players create their own trips from available minigames. The minigames cover various themes and control schemes, including rhythm music games where players use instruments such as singing, guitar, drum, or keyboard as part of a Rabbid band. Up to four players can participate simultaneously as either Rabbids or Rayman. Shooting games, previously integrated into regular levels in the first game, are now housed in a separate Shooting Arcade accessible after completing trips. These first-person rail shooters use real footage of worldwide locations with Rabbids digitally inserted, and plungers serve as the primary ammunition. Players can create custom outfits for Rayman and Rabbids, with costumes parodying characters such as Indiana Jones, Spider-Man, Superman, Sam Fisher, Ken Masters, and Altair from Assassin's Creed.
Plot
After Rayman completed all trials in the first game, the Rabbids grow tired of the Glade of Dreams and decide to invade Earth. A breaking news report shows the Rabbids invading in large yellow flying submarines, attacking a broadcaster named Jennifer Hart in Paris while world leaders hold a conference. Rayman sees this on his TV and sets out to stop them. He infiltrates a mall overrun by Rabbids, disguising himself by wearing two socks on his head, a headband with makeshift eyes, and inhaling helium to disguise his voice. He throws a soda can to distract two guard Rabbids and steals a plunger. Climbing to the roof, he peers through a skylight and sees the Rabbids watching a montage of everyday human life to study how to act like humans. A Rabbid notices Rayman, who accidentally falls into the mall and is spotted. The Rabbid Leader, distinguished by split-color eyes, approaches Rayman and pulls out a European Wii copy of the first Raving Rabbids game, seeming to recognize him. Rayman quickly screams "BWAAAAAAAAH!" to convince the Rabbids he is one of them. He and the Rabbids are then led into an airborne submarine to a location for invasion.
Reception
Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 received mixed to positive reviews, with less praise than its predecessor. It holds a 68% average on GameRankings, compared to the first game's 76%. IGN found the core games less enjoyable than those in the first title, while GameSpot noted the game has quality moments despite not being as captivating. The game was nominated for "Family Game of the Year" at the 11th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards.
