Sitronics

Sitronics (Russian: Ситро́никс) is a Russian microelectronics firm under the ownership of Sistema Holdings. Headquartered in Moscow, it primarily manufactures electronics fabs. The company operates research and development centers NIIME and Mikron in Zelenograd, along with other facilities across Eastern Europe.

The company was established in 1997 in Zelenograd under the name Scientific Center. By 2000, it had become fully vertically integrated, split into three divisions: Telecom Solutions, Information Technologies, and Microelectronic Solutions. The first division produced hardware and software for fixed and mobile communications operators and corporate clients in the communications sector. The second handled consulting, enterprise management systems, system integration, distribution, training, and after-sales support. The third focused on designing, manufacturing, and selling microelectronic products like computer chips and smart cards. Within this third unit, Mikron specialized in RFID labels, reportedly producing 50 million tags per month in 2013, making it Russia’s largest producer of that technology.

In January 2005, the company moved its headquarters to Moscow. By November 2005, it had renamed itself to Sitronics. It then pursued an aggressive international expansion through partnerships with regional and national tech firms, including Cisco Systems, STMicroelectronics, Infineon, Giesecke+Devrient, Siemens, Motorola, Oracle, Intel, Sun Microsystems, and Microsoft. On February 7, 2007, it held an initial public offering on the London Stock Exchange. Through a series of acquisitions, it became a leading Russian microelectronics company, generating over $1 billion in revenue during the first three quarters of 2007. Despite incurring losses that year, it remained part of Sistema while expanding its product portfolio and bidding for large telecommunications contracts, such as a $1 billion deal to build a network in Saudi Arabia. The company was delisted from the London Stock Exchange in 2012. In August 2021, Sitronics acquired a 71.06% stake in the space-tech firm Sputnix.

Sitronics Group works on digitalizing strategic sectors of the economy, including shipping and marine navigation, implementing integrated solutions for smart cities and security, and developing IoT systems and software.
