EHang announced the EHang 184 at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2016 as the world's first AAV capable of carrying passengers. In 2017, the company announced plans with Dubai's Road & Transportation Agency to launch an autonomous flying-taxi service starting in summer 2017, but did not succeed. It also worked with Nevada's Institute for Autonomous Systems on an AAV taxi using the EHang 184. In November 2018, an agreement was signed with the city of Lyon, France, to open a research center, and a cooperation agreement was concluded with Austrian aerospace group FACC to further develop, certify, and produce for EHang in Europe. On December 12, 2019, EHang was listed on NASDAQ with the symbol EH. On March 18, 2020, EHang entered a strategic partnership with Llíria, Spain, for urban air mobility including tourism and logistics, working with the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency. The EH216-S was approved for commercial flights in 2023, and approval was extended to unpiloted flights (limited to taking off and landing at the same vertiport) by the CAAC in March 2025.
